Default Windows 10 Creator - OpenVPN Times Out

    Hello All,

I have searched this forum and not really found this specifically.

    I have Untangle 13.1.0.20171012T092147.9901a18-1jessie
    I am using OpenVPN 2.4.4
I am using the stock configuration file from my Untangle

After Windows 10 Creators update, i cannot use OpenVPN, which I have used for years.

I downloaded straight from OpenVPN and applied the UT config
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled
I found an article on the net. Uninstalled TAP with batch file, restarted, installed with Batch file, restarted
    Same outcome

Wed Dec 06 09:25:50 2017 [UNDEF] Inactivity timeout (--ping-restart), restarting
    Wed Dec 06 09:25:50 2017 SIGUSR1[soft,ping-restart] received, process restarting
    Wed Dec 06 09:25:55 2017 WARNING: --ns-cert-type is DEPRECATED. Use --remote-cert-tls instead.

    Just cycles over and over

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I apologize if I have missed a post.
I can't imagine others haven't had this problem

Windows 10 Creators works with the version of OpenVPN that ships with Untangle 13.1.
Windows 10 Fall Creators however, I haven't gotten to work. But all I had to do to get it to work was go get the most recent OpenVPN client and install it over the top. In my case, on Fall Creators OpenVPN would connect, just not move any traffic.

Are you sure you're using 2.4.4? Because that's what's current and it's working great for me on several units. https://swupdate.openvpn.org/communi...2.4.4-I601.exe

Also, how are you testing? Because you cannot connect from within the Untangle protected network.

I got this procedure from the OpenVPN forums:

1.) Open a command prompt in administrator mode. This is important, since the commands do not work correctly as a non-admin and can't be run as an admin from the program menu.
2.) Delete the current TAP configuration (if it is present, it was already absent on my system): "C:\Program Files\TAP-Windows\bin\deltapall.bat"
3.) Reboot to ensure that everything is updated correctly. This may not be 100% necessary here, but it doesn't hurt and other users seem to suggest that it was required for them.
4.) Log on and open a command prompt in administrator mode.
    5.) Add the TAP configuration: "C:\Program Files\TAP-Windows\bin\addtap.bat"
6.) Reboot (yes, again) to ensure that everything is updated correctly. This was necessary for me in order to get it to work correctly. It didn't work until I rebooted after adding the TAP configuration.
7.) Log on and use OpenVPN normally.

I haven't tried a Fall Creators upgrade yet, everything I've used thus far has been fresh installs. So you may need to perform this procedure to forcibly reinstall the tap driver to get your stuff going.

    I found a problem

    Does not work
    Build: 13.1.0.20171012T092147.9901a18-1jessie
    Kernel: 3.16.0-4-untangle-amd64

    Works
    Build: 13.1.0.20171012T092147.9901a18-1jessie
    Kernel: 3.2.0-4-untangle-amd64

Update says there are no new. Kernel was not updated.
Is there a way to force a kernel update?

3.16 is a younger kernel than 3.2... or did you paste that backwards?

The server I was testing against is :

    Build: 13.1.0.20171012T092147.9901a18-1jessie
    Kernel: 3.16.0-4-untangle-amd64

Assuming you've got that reversed, all you should have to do is reboot the unit with the 3.2 kernel, and pick the younger kernel, it'll be there but it won't be there by default. Pick it once, and it will be the default.

That has to be done on the physical console.

    Thanks,
I need to clarify a bit.
I downloaded from 2 different servers to test.
I just realized that the laptop I was using is not 1703 or greater.
    I'll try some more.

    3.16 is the newer kernel.
The kernel won't matter - openvpn is in userspace.

I have windows professional 10 1703 in my home office.

    Company 1 - no
    Build: 13.1.0.20171012T092147.9901a18-1jessie
    Kernel: 3.16.0-4-untangle-amd64

    Company 2 – yes
    Build: 13.1.0.20171012T092147.9901a18-1jessie
    Kernel: 3.16.0-4-untangle-amd64

    Company 3 - yes
    Build: 13.1.0.20171012T092147.9901a18-1jessie
    Kernel: 3.2.0-4-untangle-amd64

    Company 4 - yes
    Build: 13.1.0.20171012T092147.9901a18-1jessie
    Kernel: 3.16.0-4-untangle-amd64

I just downloaded the software and installed it last week.
It was version 9. I did a clean install (reformat), but something is different.
It's a different version. The apps are icons and not looking like a server rack.
