I have several customers with an Untangle attempting to act as spam filter to their Exchange boxes. They've been there for years now. Something terrible has happened within the past couple months that the Spam Blocker is just not doing its job anymore. I opened a support ticket with no response for a week now. My versions vary from v9 to v11 now and none of them are working right. No one has an answer other than, "Your DNS is borked!" which isn't the case. Time to start looking at other appliances, it was a good run while it lasted.

    And, the answer is likely...

    Your DNS is borked.

As much as you don't want to admit it, that's what's happening on ALL of my current installations. As various things use the free look ups for various lists, and those list attempt to monetize ISP DNS is becoming less and less reliable.

I have v9, v10, and v11 boxes now working properly, when my DNS server stays up. The latter is an annoying problem for me at the moment.

v9 is using an ancient version of Spamassassin that doesn't work quite right for modern spam. So anyone on v9 using Spam Blocker should upgrade.

I have also verified that my DNS is working. I don't get how untangle can score emails like this as "0"??? This is getting really frustrating....

The other weird scenario is in the phish blocker. Phis blocker is set to drop emails that are determined to be phishing emails, however they are still be sent and in the email message it says "The attached message from Flight Deals <FlightDeals@1jpg.eu> was determined by the Phish Blocker to be PHISH (a fraudulent email intended to steal information). " How come it's not dropping them if it has been determined to be phish?

How did you verify DNS is working for SPAM?

I ran the command "host 2.0.0.127.zen.spamhaus.org your_DNS_server" in the terminal and recevied the following results:

    2.0.0.127.zen.spamhaus.org has address 127.0.0.10
    2.0.0.127.zen.spamhaus.org has address 127.0.0.2
    2.0.0.127.zen.spamhaus.org has address 127.0.0.4

One time check is not really useful since DNS servers have intermittent rejection of SPAM queries. Use multiple cycle request as posted.

Here are the results. Sorry, I wasn't sure how to export the log.

Everything looks like it passed. Any other recommendations?

I would open a support ticket as any further debugging will need access to your box.
