    Default SMTP session hangs

Sorry bowes your thread got deleted. Not sure how.

(I posted this earlier in the Virus Blocker Lite forum inadvertently, sorry for that)

    Hi,

We have an Untangle 11 server in routing mode in front Small Business Server 2011 server. Untangle has been working fine for a few years. We just upgraded to see if it would help this problem.

Before the upgrade, incoming and outgoing SMTP sessions would all end with "451 please try again later". The only way mail could be delivered was to disable Spam Filter Lite.

On Saturday, we upgraded and there didn't appear to be any problems until today. Some mail is not getting through and some is. Testing with telnet, I get this:

    ----------
220 mail.server.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service ready at Tue, 24 Mar 201
    5 16:40:26 -0400
    ehlo
    250-mail.server.com Hello [1.1.1.1]
    250-SIZE 52428800
    250-DSN
    250-STARTTLS
    250 AUTH
    mail from:glen@sender.com
    250 2.1.0 Sender OK
    rcpt to:bob@server.com
    250 2.1.5 Recipient OK
    data
354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>
    subject:test 4
    test
    .
    250 Ok
    --------------

And there it hangs. With Spam Filter Lite disabled, the session ends as expected with:

    250 2.6.0 <108e3bad-e51e-4c9c-bb26-3215d2f38625@mail.server.com> [InternalId=897] Queued mail for delivery

With tarpitting enabled, I can't connect to the server at all.

Any thoughts on what might be happening here?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for reposting, I appreciate it. The thing is, the session doesn't end until the Exchange receive connector times out. I also don't get any indication that the message has actually been queued, and i do with the Spam Blocker disabled:

    250 2.6.0 <108e3bad-e51e-4c9c-bb26-3215d2f38625@mail.server.com> [InternalId=897] Queued mail for delivery

    It's odd.

Oddly enough, my telnet sessions are being logged. Apparently other mail is bouncing however. I'll have to see if I can get a copy of one of the NDRs.
