Lightbulb Untangle Tip of the Day! (Adjusting SPAM scan strength)

    Untangle Tip of the Day:

You can adjust the SPAM strength on your SPAM Blocker module. Click on show settings on your SPAM Blocker module and then adjust the drop down Scan Strength menu. (Our scan strength is set very conservatively because we feel that having few SPAMs go through is better than having a false positive.)

    Hi,
I am not able to add or remove rules in here, in my Untangle the Plus and remove button is Off. And one more problem that we are using a mail server some where out site that creates us e-mails and we are using it via Pop3 and Smtp like me@somedomain.com, How can I add this domain in trusted domain list as it always being blocked and marked as Spam when we communicate through outlook.

Thank you for you nice Tips!

Go to CONFIG -> EMAIL and try to add that email server on your safe list. You didn't mention if they are showing up in the DNSBL event log. If that is the case, turn off tarpit.

Hmmm..... it's my first post here in the forum. :-) and Thank you for Untangle.

I just have few questions about the SPAM control and I believe this thread is appropriate for it... hopefully..

    1. how do you turn-off the tarpit?
    2. if you want to whitelist a single IP address from the DNSBL checking, how do you do it?
    3. how do you white list a whole domain? Is it *@domain.com?
    4. is it possible to know what is the spam grade of the following options: Low, Medium, High, Very High, Extreme?
    5. and is there a way to modify the [SPAM] message marking?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Best regards.

    randall,

Welcome! I'm not gonna do pretty quotes because I wanna go home. Here's your answers by the question number...

    1. In Spam Blocker, you can turn on/off the tarpit checkbox in SMTP settings. It is only available for SMTP.

    2. Config -> Email -> From Safe List

    3. Yes

    4. I am not sure if it is a moving number based on spam heuristics training, or cast in stone, but when it comes down to it, the numbers are no more profound than the words, just shorter.

    5. No

Good night, and welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the reply MDH. I really appreciate it.

But i just noticed here, Config -> Email -> From Safe List, that only e-mail add can be added, well.... looking at the heading.

Can it be an IP address too?

    Thanks again in advance.

    Hi,

I am looking at your snapshot and thinking that my snapshot is totally different than yours. I see more settings option and two green buttons at your POP and SMTP. I am not sure why mine does not have these, maybe I have not configured it the best way or some thing could be wrong with mine?

    Your comments please!

You're OK. That Tip of the Day that gotkimchi posted was from 5.0. The newest version does not have incoming and outgoing scanning, only incoming.

    Hi mdh,

Ohh I see, why the out going was cut off. Maybe no need to scan that, by the way thank you.
