    Default Track YouTube Usage

Ever wonder where your staff or kids are going on YouTube. I wrote a script on it. More info on the post at my web site http://davebour.com/?p=182
It uses the WebFilter as well as HTTPS inspector since youtube does everything via https now.
    Hope you find it useful.

    Really cool.

I did not know you could look up the metadata like that through the youtube API.

btw, you don't have to download the csv, you can just grab it right from the database.
    something like:
    psql -A -t -F, -U postgres uvm -c "select * from reports.http_events where host like '%youtube%'"

obviously you may only want certain columns or whatever data you like...

api - ha ha ha ... I wish it was so simple.
Brute force - curl the url - grep out the tags out of it.
Tried to do the api process but was inconsistent. Found this better. Wrote originally about a year ago, then they changed ipads call process (the primary device I intercept as that's what my kids use) so it never sent the url for youtube, just a googlevideo link which couldn't lookup the reverse youtube video. The ipad's back as of a few months ago sending the url with youtube id again - simple curl command pulls it down a "header file" and grep out the name and video link. there's a few other things there but it meets my needs at this point. I'll try a ssh command to the untangle server from the Mac and see what I get. I'll post back shortly.

Thank you Dirk. The direct access is much better and can be scheduled now to keep the files up to date so I can query at any time. Here's a sample of the output generated now...

I'll post the updated files later this morning off my website, again at the post http://davebour.com/?p=182

I forgot to mention earlier, you need to turn on the logging for category "Streaming & Downloadable Video" or add a rule to log youtube manually.

    Feedback welcome please.
