Question What is best way to tarpit Facebook Chat without affecting getting to Facebook pages?

Hi, all. Somewhat of a newbie here.

I am trying to tarpit one of the Facebook functions (specifically Chat) without affecting getting on and using the posting and reading functions in Facebook.

So far, I have tried various things inside Web Filter and Application Control ... with some of the controls, I am able to either block Facebook entirely (the entire site) or tarpit the entire site entirely too. Yes, that disables Facebook Chat, but a bit too strong ...

I am, as yet, unable to make this all selective - meaning tarpit the Facebook Chat capability only! Also tried to block all chat, using the chat category in Web Filter and that didn't do anything at all for some reason!

So ... what is the correct and best way to achieve this specific outcome? I.e, I want to "TARPIT FACEBOOK CHAT" as a preliminary step to doing the same for other CHAT sites ... such as Google, etc.

Since a similar stream is used for rendering pages as chat, it's going to be nearly impossible to maintain access to Facebook but blocking chat.

Yeah. I would guess you'd have to do full SSL inspection and do some research with your favorite javascript debugger to see what APIs/URLs that facebook chat specifically uses and try to block those.

Hi, I don't know if this is off-topic since this is already on a topic of facebook situation I would like to raise question if we can achieve to limit videos on facebook as well? or even filter all videos on facebook but will not affect the entire facebook page.

    Thanks advance.

If i need to repost it somewhere on this section please let me know.

Use the session viewer to determine where the Facebook videos are sourced from, then create a Bandwidth rule to limit them or an Application Rule to prevent them.

Try blocking this address in the webfilter: video-arn2-1.xx.fbcdn.net (31.13.72.14)
